These are my measurements: hips= 36 inch, waist= 29 inch, bust= 35 inch. I have DD’s but my lower stomach sticks out to about the same size, maybe slightly more. I have a tankini but that makes my bust look a funny, flatter shape and my stomach still looks flabby anyway. I have a bikini but I will feel quite self-conscious every time I wear it.

Just wear the bikini! Its probably more flattering anyway. And as long as u don’t have a boob slippage just have fun and be comfortable in ur own skin. If u think u look good other ppl will too. So if u feel self conscience just fake the confidence til ur not even thinking about it anymore.

Do you think it’s dorky for a 14 year old girl to wear a tankini?

No it’s not dorky. I actually think it’s super appropriate to be wearing a tankini instead of a full on bikini.

i purchased some bathing suit bottoms that haven’t seemed to match any style tankini that ive seen. i figured id try to make my own but with no little sewing experience, where do i start?

Typically with nylon/lycra or polyester/lycra blend fabrics. You’ll need a pattern; you’ll also need to know what grain is and how to cut slippery fabrics accurately (cut with paper).

This is not a good beginner sewing project.

Best sources of swimsuit patterns right now are probably Jalie and KwikSew. Kwiksew’s book, Swim and Action Wear, though dated, is an excellent source for the techniques particular to sewing swimming suits.
